Elton heard of the death of Robin Gibb when he was at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, about to perform The Million Dollar Piano show. He played Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me for Robin Gibb and his family, with the following dedication:

“During the last ten days there’s been an avalanche of death of people who I loved in the music business, starting with Levon Helm from The Band, Duck Dunn from Booker T and the MGs, Doug Dillard from The Dillards and Donna Summer.

“And today Robin Gibb from The Bee Gees passed away. He fought a long battle with cancer, and he fought it with dignity and humour. The Bee Gees were part of my life when I was growing up; they were a huge influence on me as a songwriter, and with Bernie [Taupin]. I’d like to dedicate this song to Robin and give his family, and Barry, the last surviving member of The Bee Gees, our condolences. Travel well Robin – you were amazing. God bless you.”
