Elton to Feature in New George Michael Documentary
Before George Michael’s death at the end of 2016, it was reported that a documentary about the singer-songwriter was in the works. Now, an official release date for that doc has been announced. George Michael: Freedom airs October 21 at 9 p.m. ET on Showtime. It will feature narration from the late singer-songwriter and concentrate on the formative period of his career as well as his personal life and the death of his partner Anselmo Feleppa. It features interviews with multiple music figures, including Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Mary J. Blige, Elton John, Nile Rodgers, Mark Ronson, and more. The doc also notably includes interviews with the supermodels who starred in Michael’s video for “Freedom! ’90”: Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, Tatjana Patitz and Linda Evangelista. Watch a trailer for the new doc below.
Since Michael’s passing, many musicians have paid their respects, including the moving essay by Grizzly Bear’s Ed Droste, Kamasi Washington’s performance of “Careless Whisper” at the 2017 BET Awards, and Adele’s cover of “Fastlove” for the 2017 Grammys. The first posthumous release from Michael, a new version of his song “Fantasy” with Nile Rodgers, was released earlier this month.
