All April & May Concerts Cancelled, Elton Recuperating from Deadly Infection

Sir Elton John has been in intensive care after catching a “potentially deadly” infection while in south America.


The superstar has now been forced to cancel a string of concerts after he became “violently ill” with a “harmful and unusual bacterial infection” while on a flight home from Chile.

He spent two nights in intensive care and was kept in hospital before being released home on Saturday, his agent announced on Monday.

The 'Tiny Dancer' and 'Your Song' singer is now resting at home from the bacterial infection, which has been described as “rare and potentially deadly”.

n a statement, his agent said: “Thankfully, Elton's medical team identified this quickly and treated it successfully.

“He is expected to make a full and complete recovery.”

The Pinner-born pop star has been forced to cancel the entire run of The Million Dollar Piano at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas in April and May and one show in California on May 6.

He caught the infection while on his way back from a recent tour of South America, which finished on April 10.

Sir Elton said: “I am so fortunate to have the most incredible and loyal fans and apologise for disappointing them.

“I am extremely grateful to the medical team for their excellence in looking after me so well."

The songwriter's agents, Murray Chalmers, said he will returning to his schedule of live performances in Twickenham on Saturday June 3.

Their statement read: "During a recent, successful tour of South America, Elton contracted a harmful and unusual bacterial infection.

"During his return flight home from Santiago, Chile he became violently ill. Upon returning to the UK, Elton's Doctors admitted him to hospital, where he underwent immediate treatment to remove the infection.

"After spending two nights in intensive care followed by an extended stay in hospital, Elton was released from hospital on Saturday, April 22 and is now comfortably resting at home per doctors advice.

"Infections of this nature are rare and potentially deadly."

We regret to inform you that due to medical reasons, Elton John is forced to cancel his entire performance schedule for the upcoming April/May run of “The Million Dollar Piano” at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Elton is also cancelling his scheduled performance for Bakersfield, California for Saturday May 6.

People who bought tickets by credit card will be refunded on the credit card they used for purchase, or if they paid in cash they can present their tickets at the original point of sale for a refund.
