Elton John Pays Tribute to Catherine Britt

CATHERINE Britt knows support is a key ingredient in the fight against cancer.

That’s why the Newcastle country music star was so touched when music legend Elton John dedicated Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me to her during his show in the Hunter Valley on Saturday night.

She shared the moment on Instagram, saying “I had the most amazing night … catching up with my old friend [Elton John] with my husband and our folks.”

“He even dedicated "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" to me and it made for a perfect night,” she wrote.

“We were all hugging and singing along after it happened,” she told the Newcastle Herald.

“We met up with him afterwards and had a chat … He wanted to know where I was up to [with my treatment].

“He is one of the most famous people who has done a lot for cancer awareness, and he has done a lot for breast cancer.

“He was like ‘you’re doing the right thing’, ‘you’re going to kill this thing’.”

Ms Britt said his support has given her a boost.

“It’s tough at times, it does become a struggle and moments like that bring you back up,” she said.

“I'm trying to use [the cancer] as a tool to make it a positive thing, because it’s not a positive or happy thing to go through.

“It’s an opportunity to save some lives and hopefully we’ll find a bloody cure for it so nobody else has to go through it.”

It is not the first time Elton John has mentioned Ms Britt during a show.

He mentioned her during a television show when she was 17.

After that she travelled to Las Vegas to see him perform with her mum and he mentioned her again.

“He got in contact after my diagnosis and we’ve rekindled our friendship … The way he mentioned me [on Saturday] was perfect, it was so nice to forget about it all for a while,” Ms Britt said.
