Freya Mavor to Star in Elton & David's 'Virtuoso'

Freya Mavor has landed the female lead role on HBO’s “Virtuoso,” a pilot set in 18th Century Vienna, TheWrap has learned exclusively.


The drama comes from “True Blood’s” Alan Ball, Elton John and David Furnish. Peter Macdissi will star as well as act as an executive producer on the project. Ball, John and Furnish will also executive produce along with Steve Hamilton Shaw.

“Virtuoso” follows a class of young musical prodigies from all over Europe at the prestigious Academy of Musical Excellence. Mavor will play Marie, daughter of a prestigious Catholic family in Paris and the only girl chosen for the inaugural class of the prestigious academy.

Other cast members include Alex Lawther, Francois Civil, Nico Mirallegro, Lindsay Farris and Iva Babic.
Ball, Macdissi and Shaw wrote the pilot story while Ball wrote the teleplay.
Production will take place this spring in Budapest.

Mavor, best known for her role on UK teen series “Skins,” also had roles on miniseries “The White Queen” and “New Worlds.” She is represented by Hamilton Hodell in the UK and Brillstein Entertainment.
