Elton Sends His Support to Attacked Watford Fan

Sir Elton John has pledged to make a donation to the fund for Watford fan Nick Cruwys who was attacked in Wolverhampton.

The father-of-two was targeted by a gang as he made his way to the train station after Watford’s game against Wolves at Molineux. He remains in a critical condition in hospital.

A fund set up by teenage Wolves fan Ollie Floyd in the aftermath has now passed the £32,000 mark – and Sir Elton has pledged to add to it.

Honorary Watford president Sir Elton said he and his husband David Furnish would be making a financial contribution to the Nick Cruwys Future Football Fund.

“I am so shocked and saddened to hear about what happened to Nick,” he said. “Our thoughts and prayers are very much with him and his family at this time. We wish him a very speedy recovery.”

On June 13, Elton and the band will play Banks’s Stadium, home to the Walsall Saddlers who are in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy this weekend.

Elton, having personally selected this venue on his summer tour, has sent the following message:

“I’m really looking forward to playing Banks’s Stadium in June so I wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate the Walsall players, coaching staff and directors for reaching the final of the Johnstone Paint Trophy. I wish all of them and the Walsall supporters good luck and great day out at Wembley on Sunday.“
