Elton Achieves 70th Adult Contemporary Hit

This week Elton John enters the adult contemporary chart with "Can't Stay Alone Tonight," his 70th appearance on the chart.

That extends his all time lead over Barbra Streisand who has 64 adult contemporary hits. This is Elton John's second hit from last fall's critically acclaimed The Diving Board album. The first single from the collection "Home Again" reached #14 last fall. This is Elton John's first album to generate two or more adult contemporary hits since 2004's Peachtree Road. He is also currently charting high on the Billboard Hot 100 as a songwriter on Aloe Blacc's top 10 smash "The Man" which interpolates a portion of Elton John's classic 1970 hit "Your Song."

Elton John ranks as one of the most successful recording artists of all time. He has sold over 300 million records worldwide. His 1997 re-recording of "Candle In the Wind" in the wake of Princess Diana's death ranks as the bestselling single of all time with the Guinness Book of World Records placing its sales total at 33 million. More than 25 of his albums have been certified platinum in the US.
