Billy Joel Hasn't Heard From Elton Since 2011

Billy Joel and Sir Elton John still haven't spoken since the Rocket Man went public about the Piano Man's drinking problems and urged him to take rehab seriously the next time during a 2011 interview.

The Brit has been trying to mend his 30-year friendship with Joel after making the remarks, and he revealed last year that the only contact he has had with the New Yorker is an angry letter, chiding him for making his thoughts public in a Rolling Stone magazine article.

And now Joel admits he still hasn't spoken to the new dad, but accepts his old friend's heart was "in the right place" when he made the comments.

The Upton Girl hitmaker tells the same publication, "We haven't spoken, and I don't know why. Elton doesn't really know me that well. We toured together for 16 years and never really hung out.

"Elton assumes a lot about me that he doesn't really know. If he thought I was screwing up or doing something bad, I don't know why he didn't just call me.

"I wasn't as mad as I was disappointed".

Billy Joel has ruled out a return to touring because he is still struggling to recover from double hip-replacement surgery.

The Uptown Girl hitmaker stepped away from the spotlight in 2008 after experiencing pain in his hips that left him unable to perform at a high standard.

Joel told Rolling Stone magazine: "It was agony. At one point I couldn't even walk anymore and I thought, 'OK, that's it for me. I'm just too old to do this.'

"I had to get hip replacements in both hips, and now slowly but surely I'm kinda (sic) getting back to normal. I'd say I'm 85 per cent. I can walk OK (but) I can't run like I used to.

"Everyone wants to know, 'Why don't you play more?' Honestly, I'm not as good as I used to be. I'm not as athletic as I used to be. I don't jump off the piano anymore - that didn't help my hips, either. And my voice has changed. It's lowered."

Joel will play a one-off comeback gig at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in Louisiana in April.

Actually, it has stopped him - from singing well.

Elton's voice is still excellent. He doesnt have the same vocal range as before but he has managed to adapt very well to the change in his voice to still deliver powerful performances. The recent yamaha concert is a prime example of how great of a performer he is. I enjoy his current voice more than his early one as it has more depth and power.

One wonders how the second comment person spends his /her day. They obviously have sufficient time to criticise Elton on a website that supports him! Sad.....so sad....it's a sad sad situation....
