My Melbourne & Launceston Review

Melbourne is my home town. Although not originally included on the tour, it was added to replace a concert in Mackay that was unable to proceed dude to engineering issues. Rod Laver Arena is a great venue - excellent acoustics, versatile design and great location. I have a lot of personal memories from RLA. This is where I first saw Elton live back in 2006.

Schmidt played their last show in Australia. Things started well and the audience seemed to really get behind their groove. It was really sad to see the lead guitar amp failing and the subsequent loss of guitar to a couple of tracks. They rocked the last number and got a fantastic ovation. Such warm, talented people and I look forward to catching up with them again.

Tonight's show was very exciting, Zachary was being held by a nanny on the wings of the stage watching Daddy play the piano. Looking adorable with his little earmuffs on. Elton spoke about showing Zachary the city and what a great day they had together. Zac's presence really boosted Elton's mood and he belted out the hits with real exuberance. Davey handed me a pick and I managed to get a lovely smile and cheeky grin from Elton as he observed my sparkling costume.

It was however very upsetting to hear Elton admit that he is getting old. I knew this day would come but it still surprised me to hear him say 'you know I love it here, I love coming back here. I don't know how many times I will be able to come back, but you know I will.' I really hope he is able to, and that this is not the start of a slow down in international touring that will inevitably come.

Launceston, Tasmania is a lovely semi-rural, semi-urban centre surrounded by beautiful natural attractions. It apparently has a large pharmaceutical industry based around opiate production - something a friendly taxi driver told me, I thought I might share it with you. Both myself and Sir Elton have now played and subsequently watched a concert in every state and territory in Australia. It's geographic isolation while beautiful creates headaches for Elton's logistics team, a delayed ship transporting the production touring trucks was late by enough hours that apparently the 2Cellos act was almost cut too accommodate the delay. Thank god Michael Gomez, Dennis McManus and the load-in crew were able to work like the wind and have everything ready in time.

The Silverdome is a small venue designed for cycling. It lacks many of the facilities larger arena's offer, however it makes up for this with friendly people and an intimate experience. The local audience gave Elton & the band a fabulous sendoff for China and we were rewarded with masterful showmanship and a special adjustment to the set. Sacrifice was swapped out for Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word -  a lovely farewell to the 2Cellos who featured prominently in this track.

An extra special moment came when Elton dedicated Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me to 'everyone that has come to all my shows on the Australian tour'. Thanks Elton! Your recognition means a lot to me. Elton even took the time to sign a poster for me as his bodyguard assisted him on the stage in what seemed to be a very rushed attempt at audience interaction.

As the final chords to Circle of Life dissipated into the Tasmanian air, Elton was off, heading for China. To make the tour even more special for me, Nigel via his drum tech Chris gave me his drumsticks used during the concert. Thanks Chris & Nigel for making my 20th Elton John concert a most memorable event. A special thanks to Rick, Dale, Kim, Davey & John for being so kind and generous to me during the tour too. God bless. Also I should thank Chugg Entertainment for bringing Elton back to Australia for us to enjoy. I spotted Chuggi in Launceston looking excited to see a good friend and great artist at home in Launceston. Cheers Michael and thanks so much for all your hard work.

What a magical tour it was. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting all my site followers and friends from around Australia and the world, it certainly will be something I will never forget. Thanks for reading about my travels and supporting my site.

Until next year...

My Sydney Review

Sydney is a special place for Elton, he was married here (to a woman), had throat surgery here, and has an enormous fan base that loves him dearly. Thursday's show with the band would be his 45th concert at the famous Sydney Entertainment Centre. The SEC has hosted Elton more than any other artist and even has an 'Elton John Suite' filled with memorabilia. Elton commented that 'the SEC is one of my favourite venues in the world to play. This is the third most shows i've done at any venue, behind madison Square Garden and Vegas.'

My Canberra Review

This was my first visit to Canberra, home of the Australian Government. It is a well planned city revolving around the parliament building and central government offices.

Elton was playing his only outdoor show on the Australian tour at the Canberra Stadium, a traditional sport venue. One thing I wasn't prepared for was how bitterly cold it can get at night in Canberra. Elton was prepared however, with two gas burners by his side and four very attractive young gentleman sitting directly in front of him, whom he ogled throughout the night.

My Perth Review

I remember it like it was yesterday...

What a lucky country we live in, being able to host Elton John for not only 9 concerts in 2011 but to also be seeing him down under in 2012 for another sparkling 7 gigs. Some people say 'how much longer will he tour for down here, he may not be around for much longer', others say 'live life while you can - do what you love'. So I did. I decided to see Elton at all his Aussie gigs, again. Maybe I'm crazy but all I know is that this music inspires me in so many ways and makes me feel more alive than anything else can. All I can say is that it was a pure privilege to witness one of the greats of music live.

Launceston Review

``THE Bitch is Back.''

It was with the lyrics from that song, that Elton John entered the Launceston Silverdome stage last night.

Melbourne Reviews

Despite the fact that he played here just a year ago, Sir Elton John is still capable of pulling a capacity crowd at Rod Laver Arena, and at the age of 65, has lost little of the sparkle that has attracted millions to his music over the past 43 years.

Elton John Gets Star Named After Him

SIR Elton John's star was born more than four decades ago and last night he was rewarded with a heavenly body named in his honour by the Sydney Entertainment Centre.

David's Birthday From a Guest's Perspective

Okay. This is a wardrobe nightmare. What do you wear to Elton John’s home in Los Angeles when the invite says “casual”? Look, I realize in this world of plague and disaster that is a pretty irrelevant question, but it was one facing me on Oct. 24, and if it comes right down to it, who has done more to end plague than Elton John, working himself to an early demise giving 30 charity performances in the past year alone amid an insane working schedule and raising money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation ($435 million to date, so not insignificant).

Q&A with Nick Littlemore

Just hours after this post went up, Elton John finished a concert in Sydney that included a mini-set with Australian pop duo Pnau. Those two musical forces joined on an album this summer, Good Morning to the Night, where Pnau remixed older and more obscure Elton cuts. The effort went number one in the U.K., and recently saw an American release.

Q&A with Sir Elton

Singer-songwriter Elton John is scheduled to give his second concert in South Korea on Nov. 27 at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul. The concert will be co-hosted by the Hankyoreh and production agency Access ENT. Unlike his first concert, which was held at the Olympic Stadium‘s outdoor stage, this event will be held indoors, making it possible for the audience to enjoy better sound quality. With the concert just around the corner, the Hankyoreh interviewed Elton John via email.

Reduced Updates for 14 Days

The countdown is on...Sir Elton arrives in Australia tomorrow and the band are on their way now.

I will be heading to Perth on Saturday to attend all seven concerts on this years Australian tour.

As I will be busy travelling to various cities and attending the shows, there will be reduced updates to the site for the next two weeks. Normal service will resume from November 22.

I will make intermittent important updates and will of course cover the important set list updates and info from the Aussie gigs.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, I look forward to seeing many of you out on the road with me.

How Elton's New Tour Support Scored Dream Job

Life couldn't be better for 22-year-old German, Elisa Schmidt. Only a week after the Australian release of her debut album Femme Schmidt, she's home in Berlin taking in all the complimentary remarks comparing her to a modern day Marlene Dietrich or the new ''pearl of pop noir.'' Schmidt is entering one of the most exciting phases of her career where people start to recognise her gifts and understand what all the fuss is about. A trained singer, she left home at 16 to attend a music academy in South London, having realised at the tender age of 10 that singing had to be a central part of her life.

Candle in the Wind - Biggest Single in UK History

Elton John has topped a list of 123 songs to have sold over a million copies in Britain, AFP reports. The list was compiled to mark the 60th anniversary of the existence of the singles charts and Elton John’s double A side ‘Something About The Way You Look Tonight’ and ‘Candle In The Wind 1997’ triumphed. The double a-side single was released in 1997, after John re-wrote Candle in the Wind for Princess Diana’s funeral. The release spent five weeks at number one in Britain, selling 4.9 million copies.

Elton Records Duet with Engelbert Humperdinck

Over the years, Elton John has recorded duets with everyone from Kiki Dee to George Michael to Lady Gaga, so it’s no surprise to hear that he’s recorded yet another collaboration, this time with veteran English pop crooner Engelbert Humperdinck.
