More Info on the Oz Tour

Chugg Entertainment chief executive Matthew Lazarus Hall told The Canberra Times they expected 12000 people when Sir Elton appeared at the Canberra Stadium with his five piece band.

Sir Elton’s first and last appearance in Canberra was in December 2007 when 10,000 people at Stage 88 were drenched to the skin when the skies opened and it poured during the entire concert.
Mr Hall said weather was always a risk factor but part of Canberra stadium was sheltered and they would have insurance to protect the performers and audience.

Mr Hall said organisers anticipated people would come to the Canberra concert from Victoria and South Australia. ‘‘And hopefully that will be good for the local economy,’’ he said.

‘‘We are confident we can get 12,000 people. I think the tickets are priced well, just under $120, and in November the weather should be beautiful. They are playing across the ground into the west so there will be seats on the ground and in the western stand,’’ he said.

Sir Elton played solo in 2007 and refused to give in to the weather although it rained so hard people’s shoes filled with water and mud flowed through the aisles.

‘‘His back was actually getting quite wet but he continued on,’’ Mr Hall said. ‘‘His tour director went out and said ‘are you okay to keep going?’ and he said, ‘if they are still all out there having a good time, I am staying and playing, and he played for the three full hours,’’ he said.
