Fan Leases Billboard to get a Message to Elton
For a man who's used to seeing his name in lights, Sir Elton John probably wouldn't think twice about seeing it on a billboard in Jacksonville, but Camille Clement Gregg hopes that will soon change.
"I've seen him in Cincinnati, I've seen him in Clevelend, I've seen him in Washington, an I get t-shirts made for every concert." Sir Elton John's self-proclaimed number one fan has traveled the globe to 106 concerts over 41 years.
It all started when she was just 10 years old. "He had glasses and I had glasses, and he was pudgy and I was pudgy, and he played piano and I played piano, and I loved his music." Over the years, the singer became her inspiration, and she credits him for keeping her spirit alive through many lonely, severe battles with cancer.
"It's sort of like going to see an old friend." But he's a friend she's never met, so this week, she filling the empty skies over I-95 with a sign asking for a quick visit during her 107th show in Orlando next weekend.
It's not a chance to brag, but rather to say thanks. "I'd tell him that 'I really appreciate everything you've given me', get a quick hug and quick picture to add to my already vast collection, and be on my way." Back to being a not-so-average fan at her 108th, 109th and 110th shows.
"It's never the end. It's not about the destination, it's always about the journey."
