Sir John Kicks Off European Tour

POP superstar Sir Elton John rocked Scarborough’s Open Air Theatre last night with a memorable show which left fans in raptures.

The legendary singer-songwriter wowed the sell-out 8,500 crowd with a dazzling performance that brought standing ovations from his adoring fans.

The 64-year-old defied the leaden skies to brighten up the venue with a string of massive hits during the two-and-a-half show. And he declared Scarborough a “wonderful” place to perform.

He said: “This is my first show of the summer in England and I couldn’t have asked for a better one.

“Thank you so much Scarborough, it was wonderful to be here.

“I have played all over the world but never at Scarborough and it has been a blast.”

Dressed in a sparkling black suit and purple shirt, Sir Elton flew into Scarborough direct from Venice after attending a major art exhibition with partner David Furnish and their son, Zachary.

After starting his set with a nostalgic return to his earliest work, he soon had fans jumping from their seats by belting out huge hits such as Candle in The Wind, Your Song, Sacrifice and Crocodile Rock, which had his followers dancing in the aisles.

And after performing his full setlist without a break, he impressed fans further by performing an encore of Circle of Life and I’m Still Standing, with fans taking over vocals, before signing autographs at the front of the stage.

After the show one fan, Audrey Wilson, of Newby, said: “It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, to get someone like him in Scarborough is amazing.

“The show was just fantastic,” she added.

Dutch Concert Postponed to August

It remains unclear which artists will be present to give concert at the Royal Beach. The organization had announced on Tuesday that the festival, which includes Bryan Adams, Elton John and Golden Earring managed to snare is moved from June 4 to August 27.
Also, the location changed from the Malieveld Scheveningen in The Hague. The progress of the concert is "hampered by several issues of an operational nature", the organization gave as an explanation. "We had last minute problems, including the cooperation with local entrepreneurs."

Golden Earring into question the state of affairs. "We knew that something played, because the organization was unavailable for days." The rock band is "in principle" on August 27 action, while seeking clarification of the organization. "We are Fri Whether we do is half. We will see."

Bryan Adams did on Facebook at least know not to come late August. "Bryan is there not mentioned." Or Elton John is to appear, is unclear.

The organization is the final date of August 27, whether the musicians booked then or not. "We are managing all artists in dialogue, " says a spokesman. "If it appears that some can not, we look at alternatives." The Thursday zegspersoon hopes to have more clarity. "There's a lot going on, but we do not prematurely with half-answers."

Rather said the organization satisfied with the number of tickets sold, which is now over fifteen thousand. Last year in early March about twice as many tickets sold and 45,000 people eventually came to the shows. All tickets remain valid in any case.

Tickets Still Available for Dunedin

Tickets remain for the Sir Elton John concert at Dunedin's still-under-construction Forsyth Barr Stadium on November 25.

Capital C: Concerts managing director Phil Sprey said yesterday "a couple of thousand" seats were still available for the first concert by an international performer at the stadium.

Mr Sprey was originally considering holding a second Sir Elton concert in the stadium, if demand had justified it.

However, public ticket sales for the concert opened the day after the Canterbury earthquake on February 22, which had "a terrible" effect on sales, he said.

"[But] losing a few sales is a hell of a lot better than losing your life."

Nearly half (45%) of the 30,000 seats sold so far have been bought in Dunedin, with another 20% from the Otago region, Mr Sprey said.

The North Island and top of the South Island accounted for 33% of sales, with the remaining 2% bought overseas, mostly in Australia and the United States. A recent reconnaissance of the stadium had been encouraging.

"As the promoter, we are extremely excited about the stadium as, when we visited and stood on the pitch, the atmosphere was a very intimate feel," Mr Sprey said.

"Unlike other New Zealand stadiums, the closeness of the seats to the pitch and the perception of distance made a unique impact, where even a seat as far away as the opposite end still had a close feel."

He was confident the remaining tickets, which were "mostly in the better sections", would sell out well before the concert. The concert was Sir Elton's first in the South Island for 20 years.

Elton Urges Florida to Save HIV Treatment

TALLAHASSEE, Florida — Singer Elton John is urging Florida Gov. Rick Scott to protect a program that helps low-income HIV/AIDS patients get medication needed to control the virus.

John, founder of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, wrote to Scott on Tuesday after hearing the Department of Health was considering changes in income eligibility.

A department spokeswoman says there are no immediate plans to change the AIDS Drug Assistance Program, though it held hearings to discuss the possibility of lowering income requirements to participate.

In their letter, John and foundation Chairman David Furnish say lowering income eligibility could mean 1,600 people will no longer get help obtaining antiretroviral medication.

Elton Not Hosting ARIA Awards

ELTON John has agreed to add a Sydney show to his tour at the end of the year but many of his most loyal fans in Sin City will miss out.

Instead of playing the larger Sydney Entertainment Centre where he holds the record for the amount of concerts, John will perform at the "intimate" Lyric Theatre at Star City.

About 2000 fans will enjoy the show, which is being billed as a "pre-tour opener" for $255 a ticket.

The timing of the tour has now ruled out the Rocket Man as host of the 25th anniversary of the ARIA Awards in mid-November.

No doubt he will still record a video message parodying his famous line at the first ARIA awards when he told the 500 industry types to never allow the event to be televised because it would stop being fun.
