Elton Coming to Peterborough?
According to what KRUZ FM 100.5 morning man Mike Melnik cites as a "very reliable...very credible" source, Sir Elton John will bring his string of classic rock songs and pop ballads to Peterborough next fall.
Melnik took the phone call during his Thursday morning on-air shift, which he co-hosts with Catherine Hanrahan.
"My source said, "I'm surprised it (news of the concert) is not already out there," says Melnik, also quoting the caller as assuring "I wouldn't mislead you on this."
But according to Memorial Centre assistant manager-administration Rob Marsh, if John, 64, is eyEing Peterborough, and particularly the home of the Petes, as a tour stop, that's news to him at this point.
"We'd love for him to come here, the door is always wide open to that, but there's been no contact made," says Marsh.
"Our plate is pretty full here...Hedley, Rock The Ice, The Harlem Globetrotters. We're busy promoting and selling for those shows. Hopefully they'll do well because that's what promoters look for -- strong ticket sales and support from the public."
According to eltonjohn.com, the legendary pop music star does have a busy 2012 ahead, including headlining his Million Dollar Piano spectacle in Las Vegas and a tour of Germany in early summer. But, interestingly enough, at this point, he has no shows booked in September -- the month which Melnik's source says he will perform in Peterborough.
Just this past summer, John played a sold-out solo show in Oshawa at the GM Centre.
Married to Canadian David Furnish, John's mother-in-law lives in Port Hope, fueling further speculation that he's looking to keep busy performance-wise while he's visiting Canada.
