The Stars of St Tropez Come to Sydney & Melbourne

Saint-Tropez Tourisme in conjunction with Air France and Atout France, is proud to present ‘Star Spotting in Saint-Tropez’. The photographic exhibition is a collection of the world’s biggest stars holidaying in this iconic French Riviera town, a mecca for the fashionable and the famous.

Running from 25 November 2011 to 31 January 2012 at Sofitel Wentworth Sydney and Sofitel on Collins in Melbourne, ‘Star Spotting in Saint-Tropez’ will showcase unique photos of celebrities such as Brigitte Bardot, Elton John, Dustin Hoffman and Princess Diana. Other images captured and on show include celebrities such as Karl Lagerfield, Michael Caine, Sting, Jack Nicholson, Jerry Hall, The Rolling Stones, Bono and Diane Kruger. A collection of old and new wave celebrities combined, the exhibition pays homage to the pop icons of our modern culture.

Situated on the French Riviera in the Provence Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, St Tropez has always been a premier celebrity holiday spot. Set on the picturesque Bay of Saint-Tropez, the town is known as much for its celebrity holiday makers as it is for the line of yachts along the quay, its idyllic beaches, designer shops and expensive cars.

Annual visits to St Tropez peak with the arrival of the prestigious nearby Cannes Film Festival each summer. Since its inception in 1946, the Cannes Film Festival has lured glamorous celebrities from all over the world to the Riviera. At the conclusion of the festival, celebrities have traditionally flocked to St Tropez for their holidays. With the arrival of such famous visitors, the glitz and glamour of St Tropez is rivalled by few places on earth.

Daniel Angeli was one of the first ‘people’ photographers. Often considered the godfather of the paparazzi movement, David Angeli’s shots always capture the spontaneity of the moment. Taken sometimes with and often without consent, his pictures have captured the more private aspects of celebrity’s lives, and have documented the rapid rise of celebrity culture.

Brigitte Bardot, perhaps Saint-Tropez’ most famous current resident, grew up in the village. “And God… created Woman” was shot in Saint-Tropez and from there on all young women wanted to look like B.B., copying her Saint Tropez style: gingham mini dress, ballet shoes, bikini and micro shorts.
