Hunter Valley Concert Does Not Have Council Approval

LENGTHY delays in gaining approval for big-name concerts in the Hunter Valley "just puts doubt into the minds of the public", says Michael Chugg of Chugg Entertainment.

Mr Chugg said he found it "amazing" that Cessnock City Council had not approved concert applications lodged in May, given how much money big-name concerts bring to the local economy.

His comments follow a decision by concert venue operator, Michael Hope, of Hope Estate, to take the council to the Land and Environment court to get approval for concerts scheduled for later this year including Dolly Parton on November 10 and Rod Stewart on February 11.

Mr Chugg is the promoter behind artists including Elton John who has two concerts at Hope Estate in early December.

"I am quite surprised that it's taken them more than three months and Michael Hope still doesn't have an answer," he said.

"I have friends who have tried to get accommodation around the Elton John dates and they've been booked out for months."
