What a Night - EJ Solo at The Union Chapel

Call us smug, call us lucky – whatever you want to call us (no rude names please from the cheeky regulars – you know who you are) – the fact is, we spent a cosy night with Sir Elton John last night. And... it was magnificent. The music legend took to the stage at Islington’s Union Chapel for an exclusive gig with Absolute Radio for what was supposed to be a 30 minute set – but ended up on for more than an hour and a halfand broke the curfew. Whoops. But, we certainly are not complaining and neither were the likes of James Corden, Matt Lucas, Theo from Hurts and the lovely Andy Roddick who were all there (shmoozing with Elt’ before and after, in his dressing room no less). Sir Elt even praised the lovely Ellie Goulding on her cover of Your Song, saying “I think Ellie Goulding has done a brilliant job with her cover. She’s changed the arrangement up and it’s been done very well – that’s what you should do with a cover”. And of course The Absolute Radio DJs were also out in force for the night – with Ian Wright even admitting he was expecting to shed a few tears while watching Elton on stage. Shhh – but we totally did too. It was the amazing performance of Your Song, Rocket Man and I’m Still Standing that got us – those and the amazing last set with Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me. Best night out in ages!
The gig will be available to stream online at in Full HD audio from Monday. It will also be played out in full on Absolute Radio on Boxing Day at 6pm.
