Having been forced to cancel his Red Piano Tour show at The O2 last year, Elton John has finally gotten around to scheduling a visit to Ireland. And he's bringing respected drummer and percussionist Ray Cooper with him.
Ray Cooper first worked with Elton in August of 1971, on the Madman Across The Water album, and first joined him on stage at the Royal Festival Hall show six months later. He is also known for his work with Pink Floyd, Sting, George Harrison and Eric Clapton.
Elton John and Ray Copper are set to perform together again at The O2 on December 15th 2010. This will be the first time Elton & Ray have performed together in Ireland since their legendary appearances in 1979 when they played 2 Shows at the National Stadium in Dublin and 2 Shows at the Whitla Hall in Belfast.
Tickets will be priced €65.70, €86.25, €96.25, €106.25 fully seated and go on sale Thursday 1st July at 9am
The evening, hosted by the singer and his partner, David Furnish, at their home in Old Windsor, raised more than £5.6 million for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
This, the 12th annual White Tie & Tiara Ball, was inspired by the ‘star’ of the event, Lady Gaga, who made her first appearance dressed as a ‘bride’ out of an Edgar Allan Poe horror tale, in a see-through gown and matching knickers by the young Italian designer, Francesco Sconamiglio, with a gilded “cage” by Viktor & Rolf over her face, and a treasure trove of Chopard diamonds.
“It’s a Lady Gaga Wonderland,” said Sir Elton, as he mingled in the grounds with 650 guests, many of whom appeared bemused by the strait-jacketed performance artists dangling from the trees, and the “men-in-white-coats” and “bandaged” waiters serving cocktails in medicine bottles, and canapés in metal surgical trays.
“We’re all ga-ga tonight,” said Christina Juffali, the wife of the Saudi billionaire, Walid Juffali, resplendent in Oscar de la Renta couture, and a choker of Chopard “gold diamonds”.
David Walliams arrived with his new bride, the model, Lara Stone, who wore a blood-red Calvin Klein gown. Also in scarlet, was the Khazakhstan beauty, Goga Ashkenazi, a friend of Prince Andrew, who was among the guests.
Other celebrities included Dame Shirley Bassey, in an Isabell Kristensen gown, who had flown in from Monaco, just for the ball; Elizabeth Hurley, in white Versace, and her husband Arun Nayar; Alex Curran, the wife of the England captain, Steven Gerrard; the couturier, Valentino; the actress, Kate Beckinsale; Sharon Osbourne and her daughter, Kelly; Boris Becker and his wife; Jimmy Carr; Mylene Klass; Lily Cole; Tracey Emin; Jon Bon Jovi and family; Jake Shears of the Scissor Sisters; Kid Rock; Kerry Katona; Peter Andre; and the singer, Paloma Faith.
After a dinner of scrambled eggs with caviar, followed by Cumbrian lamb, and a chocolate bombe with peanut butter ice-cream, guests were invited to place multi-thousand pound bids in a luxury auction, in which a new, one-off Audi A1, spin-painted by Damien Hirst, went for £350,000.
Money raised at the balls, which have become an annual feature of rural Old Windsor, support the numerous health, education and community programmes which the Elton John AIDS Foundation supports in Africa.
Lady Gaga bought the evening to a thundering close with a dueling grand pianos session with Sir Elton, which combined her power-ballad, “Speechless”, and one of his greatest hits, “Your Song”.

Sir Elton John is giving Alberta Ballet’s Love Lies Bleeding two thumbs way up — which means his official blessing to take the show on the road.
The critically acclaimed and very popular $1.2 million production, choreographed by Alberta Ballet artistic director Jean Grand-Maitre and based on 14 Elton John songs, premiered only last month in Calgary.
“It’s very good news,” says an elated Grand-Maitre, adding that the OK from the famous singer-songwriter to show the loosely autobiographical Love Lies Bleeding to the rest of the world means that the company might be in a position to tour the work as early as September 2011.
“We have major promoters from New York and Canada interested in investing,” Grand-Maitre says. “But there are such big bucks involved that we’re really taking our time. We’ve already refused tours for this coming January across Mexico, because we want to do this right.”
According to Grand-Maitre, talk of touring is rife, as well, in such Elton-friendly countries as China, Japan and Korea for “an Asian tour unlike anything we have ever seen.”
For Alberta Ballet, the continued success of Love Lies Bleeding beyond the borders of Calgary and Edmonton would not only translate into a badly-needed longer performance season for the company’s 30-plus dancers, but would also lead eventually to the creation of a second company, for touring purposes.
But there are two strings attached to Sir Elton’s seal of approval, Grand Maitre points out.
The first condition stipulates that the ballet cannot be performed in a city where either the great entertainer himself is performing, or where the two Elton John musicals, The Lion King and Billy Elliot, are running.
The other condition?
“Elton asked us to stay within what he calls the ‘ballet fraternity,’ ” Grand-Maitre says. “That means if we go to London, we go to Sadler’s Wells (Theatre), or if we go to New York, we go to City Center.
“We don’t want to pretend it’s a Broadway show. He (Sir Elton) likes it because it’s an innovative contemporary ballet.
“And he wants new people to come to the ballet.”

The annual glitzy bash is held at Sir Elton's home with partner David Furnish and raises money for the Elton John Aids Foundation (EJAF).
This year's event will be held on Thursday in Old Windsor, near Windsor Castle.
As part of the same lot, the car will be auctioned with a 6ft diameter canvas spin painting, which Hirst completed at the same time.
The A1 will not be seen on UK roads until November, and the special artwork was created ahead of the car's mainland European launch dates.
Audi UK director Jeremy Hicks said: 'We are enormously proud to support Sir Elton John's remarkable fundraising ball for the eighth year in succession with the donation of a priceless and unrepeatable work of art for auction.'
Damien Hirst's artworks in formaldehyde brought him widespread attention in the 1990s, and the artist recently courted controversy with For the Love of God, a platinum cast of a human skull encrusted with diamonds.

Elton John has performed a triumphantly successful concert to nearly 50,000 cheering fans in Ramat Gan, telling Israelis: “Nobody gonna stop me from playing here, baby”.
The country’s music fans have suffered several high profile cancellations, including bands such as the Pixies, Carlos Santana, Gorillaz, the Klaxons and, most recently, Elvis Costello.
Many of the acts cancelling their performances said they had been targeted by pro-Palestinian groups.
But Sir Elton John, who has played in Israel twice previously, told the audience: “We do not cherry-pick our consciences.”
Earlier the Rocket Man singer had defended his decision to play in Israel, writing: “I have always believed that music inhabits a world set apart from politics, religious differences or prejudice of any kind.
“Throughout my career I have made a point of playing concerts in challenging places, such as the USSR and Northern Ireland in the 1970s, Israel in the 1990s and very recently Morocco.
“Music is, and always will be, a universal language, free from boundaries. It can and does inspire unity and builds bridges between people, and I will continue to play concerts anywhere in the world where I can encourage that unity.”

See just what it takes to bypass the tour promoters and book your very own personal concert with Sir Elton John.
See the video of Rush Limbaugh discussing it here:
In a recent interview with This is London, Stephen Daldry ( London 2012 Artistic Director), shed some light on his plans for the global event;
I can't believe he'll resist the urge to tinker creatively. Surely, he must have sounded out Billy Elliot's composer Elton John as a potential star of the opening ceremony, perhaps surrounded by boy ballet dancers from the musical? “There will be no Billy Elliot dancers,” he says, sidestepping the Elton question. Which I take to mean that Daldry has let Boyle know the channel to Elton is open. But for now, his stated position on the creative side is “hands off”.

Three more concerts have been added to the European dates already announced for Elton and Ray Cooper later this year. They are:
December 5, 2010, Spektrum, Oslo, Norway
December 9, MCH Multiarena, Herning, Denmark
December 10, Malmö Arena, Malmo, Sweden.
Add Elton John to those who were not expecting him to get an invite to Rush Limbaugh's wedding.
"To put it in Elton's exact words, when he got the invitation, he was 'a little surprised,' " his partner David Furnish told PEOPLE on Sunday at the Tony Awards in New York. "And then, when it turned out to be a genuinely sincere invitation ... Elton said, 'Life is about building bridges, not walls.' "
John also saw it as another opportunity, in his words, "to go where people wouldn't expect me to go."
"And maybe if I can make a great impression," Furnish quoted him as saying, "people might change their perspectives on life."
Furnish was in Europe and couldn't attend the wedding. But John told him it was a beautiful event and Limbaugh and his bride "were incredibly gracious and very welcoming and very sweet and very appreciative."
"Elton, during the performance made a lot of cracks: 'I suppose you all wonder why I'm here tonight?' " says Furnish. "But ultimately, it's a bit like an olive branch, I guess."
By all accounts, John and the couple got along well. "I wasn't there, but from everything Elton told me, he said Rush and his bride were incredibly charming and welcoming. And they have said they want to come and have dinner with us in England, if they pass through in their travels."
The tentative offer was welcomed. "We have to bring the world together, not apart," said Furnish, who produced Next Fall with Sir Elton on Broadway.

Sir Elton John has reportedly turned down an offer to be a guest judge on The X-Factor.
The 63-year-old Rocket Man was reportedly offered one of the guest-judge slots to take the place of Dannii Minogue while she is on maternity leave.
However, the star reportedly turned it down as he doesn't agree with the morals of the show.
A source said to UK newspaper The People: 'He didn't want anything to do with the show, despite its amazing viewing figures.
'It would have been great for his profile, but he didn't feel he needed the exposure.
'And he disagrees with the show's policies - he thought he'd have to be cruel to people who don't deserve it.
'If his job was to seek real talent and not put down the less talented, it would have been different.
'Some people think it would be fun - but he can't see the funny side of the role or the auditions.'

Elton John's first-time concert in Bulgaria, far from a mere live rendition of staple pop hits, was a feast of just plain great music played with tons of feeling.
The Sunday show at Sofia's Locomotive stadium was part of the British artist's “Rocket Man” tour, promoting his latest greatest hits compilation.
Sir Elton's band burst into the stage with the immortal “Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding”, setting the tone for an evening of fine musicianship.
The set, which lasted over two-and-a-half hours, put a very welcome emphasis on John's output from the seventies, including gems such as the brooding “Madman Across the Water”.
The band comprised Davey Johnstone (guitar), Bob Birch (bass), Nigel Olson (drums), John Mahon (additional percussion), Kim Bullard (keybords) and Sir Elton himself at the piano. The latter gently dominated the sound, allowing each one of the other five to showcase his craft.
A heavy portion of the songs were graced by improvs, played in impeccable unison by the band members, and culminating in a lengthy outro to the song “Rocket Man”.
The show concluded with hits such as “Bennie and the Jets” and “I'm Still Standing”, and a heartfelt rendition of “Your Song”, which left the audience more than charmed.

Officials in Belarus have asked the organizers of an upcoming Elton John concert in Minsk to prevent the promotion of homosexuality.
The Public Council for Morality is to study recordings of earlier performances by the British singer to make sure “they have no elements inconsistent with the law and morality,” the head of the organization said.
“We have requested the organizers of the concert to give us records of Elton John’s earlier performances,” he said.
Nikolai Cherginets said the Council is particularly concerned over the openly gay singer’s statement in an interview with a U.S. magazine that Jesus was a "super-intelligent gay man."
Elton John will play at the Minsk Arena on June 26 as part of his European summer tour.
Sexual minorities have become active in the country of late and “even attempted to hold a gay parade in Minsk,” Cherginets said. The attempted parade was broken up by police.
Cherginets said the Council had already prevented outbreaks of “immorality” during a May concert by German industrial metal band Rammstein in the Belarusian capital.
“If we had not interfered, there would have been sex on stage and the relief of physical needs right in front of the audience,” the official said.
The Public Council for Morality was established in 2009 by the Belarusian Orthodox Church and the Writers Union of Belarus, with the support of President Alexander Lukashenko.
Rush Limbaugh and Sir Elton John's relationship started with problems. Heart problems, that is.
According to conservative talk radio host Mark Levin, a guest at Limbaugh's wedding last weekend, Limbaugh and John were staying at the same hotel in Hawaii when Limbaugh had his heart attack scare earlier this year.
John checked up on Limbaugh to see how he was doing, and from there, a friendship formed.
"As Elton John explained it to the 400 or so people there, he and Rush have kept up a fairly regular e-mail exchange," Levin said on his show Tuesday.
He called John "gracious and superb," and mentioned the heat John is receiving from the Left for his relationship with Limbaugh.
"He's about tearing down walls, not building them," Levin added.

Rush Limbaugh's wedding guests weren't the only people treated to a private Elton John concert over the weekend.
A day after playing the Palm Beach festivities, John played a private show in New York for American Express Centurion cardmembers - aka the black card - at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall.
Despite a sinus infection (he apologized if he sounded nasally) John played for 2.5 hours, covering all his biggest hits from 'Bennie and Jets' and 'Your Song' to 'Candle in the Wind' and 'Rocket Man.'
He also sang some new material, such as 'You're Never Too Old (To Hold Somebody),' off a yet-to-be released album.

White furniture, red roses and 20 suitcases are part of the requirements for Sir Elton John's dressing room interior design in Sofia, announced the organizers of his first Bulgarian concert.
The performance is part of the world-famous musician's solo tour and will take place on June 13 in Sofia on the “Lokomotiv” stadium. Ticket prices will range from BGN 80 to BGN 120.
A team of 150 people is responsible for building the stage, the settings and all the details for the preparation for the concert.
The equipment for Sir Elton John's world tour include 30 trucks and 20 buses, four of which are for the band. The singer and his musicians will travel in super luxurious limousines BMW.
A personal dressing room, relaxation room and a wardrobe backstage will be available for the singer before the concert in Sofia. He required red carpets for every room, coquette table lamps with veils and energy saving bulbs for avoiding fluorescent lighting on the ceiling.
The furniture in the relaxation room will not be leather, the organizers said. The “jewel” will be the white Victorian armchair with cashmere threads, which accompanies the musician on his performances ever since he bought it last year.
Other requirements for the Sofia concert are a personal telephone line for connection with every part of the world and a 42-inch plasma TV with a satellite. Sir Elton John also demanded four 2-meter palm trees, huge square vase with mix of fresh flowers and white decorative stones on the bottom.
The bouquet should exclude lilies, carnations, chrysanthemums, and daisies. The vases in the personal dressing room will be seven with seven roses each, two white and five red, with the same length of stems and no leaves.
