Elton & David Attend Time's 100 Most Influential Ball

They're perhaps not the first people who would spring to mind, but Sir Elton John, Ashton Kutcher and Taylor Swift have all earned a place on this year's poll of the world's most influential people by Time magazine.

Last night the trio made sure they stepped into the limelight as the publication threw a party in New York ahead of the full publication of the list tomorrow.

Country pop singer Swift, 20, entered at number nine, while U.S. actor Kutcher, who's married to Demi Moore, also made it on to the prestigious chart.

Elton celebrated his nod at the event, held last night at Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York, and brought along his civil partner David Furnish.

Singing sensation Lady Gaga topped this year's poll, while geeky Glee star Lea Michele made it in at number 13.
Others who feature on the list include Twilight star Robert Pattinson, Ricky Gervais and X Factor supremo Simon Cowell.

The annual Time 100 list of 'the people who most affect our world' also includes this year's big Oscar winners Kathryn Bigelow and Sandra Bullock, and musician Prince.

R-Pattz was described on the Time website as 'a bit of a weirdo, frankly, in the best sense,' by Chris Weitz, director of The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

Nick Cannon, host of America's Got Talent, said Simon 'has made an indelible impression on global pop culture'.

Ricky said of his mention: 'I am both flattered and honoured. I promise to use my powers for good and not evil. And I declare May 1 World Gervais Day. Thank you.'

Pop veteran Cyndi Lauper told Time: 'When I see somebody like Gaga, I sit back in admiration. I'm inspired to pick up the torch again myself.'

Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry said Sir Elton is 'a proud, sober, married gay man who got there only after years of pain and unrelenting public scrutiny'.

Victoria Beckham described designer Marc Jacobs, also on the list, as 'undoubtedly one of the most influential designers of all time', on the magazine's website - and 'one of the most interesting and intellectual men I have ever known'.
The full list and related tributes appears in the May 10 issue of Time, which hits the shops on Friday.
