Billy Elliot Coming to Melbourne, Auckland, Brisbane!

Producers today announced the premier performance of Billy Elliot the Musical- which has a score by Elton John- will be held at Her Majesty's Theatre in Melbourne on December 30.

The hunt for Melbourne's Billy boys will be held later this month.

Audition details will be posted on the show's website in coming weeks.

The Broadway version opens in New York in October, after critically acclaimed productions in Sydney and London.

The Sydney show has sold more than 400,000 tickets in its six months at the Capitol Theatre.

Producer Eric Fellner said he was happy Melbourne audiences would now get the chance to see the world's most recent stage success.

"Billy has now been seen by 2.2 million people worldwide and we are very pleased Melbourne audiences will now have the opportunity too,'' Mr Fellner said.

Based on the feel-good 2000 film of the same name, Billy Elliot the Musical tells the story of a blue-collar kid in England's north who dreams of dancing.

Universal Pictures Stage Entertainment, Working Title Films and Old Vic Productions announced
today that the smash-hit Billy Elliot the Musical will conclude its spectacular Sydney season at
The Capitol Theatre on November 23, 2008, where the production will have enjoyed a year-long
run.

The Australian production will move to Her Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne, where performances
will commence on December 30 ahead of its official premiere on January 15.

Billy Elliot the Musical, which opened in London in May 2005 to extraordinary reviews, has
broken UK box office records at the Victoria Palace Theatre. The Australian production opened to
equal critical acclaim in December last year and the Broadway production will commence
performances on October 1st this year.

Performances are also scheduled for Brisbane and Auckland, New Zealand.
